Sat down with state lead and had a chat,

I had one interview (approx. 1 hour long) with my team manager and another senior person of my team, after a brief phone call from recruitment staff. My referees were called soon after.

Discussion process. Question about company, my own experience, capabilities, interest. Connection between employer and interviewee.

No detailed assessment - phone call with generic questions then an informal face to face with senior people in my team. However, my experience would not be typical for most coming on as grads due to my previous experience

The HR ladies that were in contact with me to organise the interview and looking at my resume were wonderful, my interview was relaxed and my now manager was friendly and professional during the interview.

I applied for a graduate role in a different area and when I followed up with the recruiter he put me in touch with my future manager. I got a face-to-face interview and was hired soon after.

when I was interviewed it was apart of the small business (when windward structures just got bought out by WSP/PB. So I was good friends with a senior work colleague, so he set up an interview with the directors of the company (structures), and so got in that way. many people were hired around my time.

Straightforward interview process, friendly and approachable hiring staff.

Interview for a grad role was fairly standard. Particular focus on personal skills (fit with the team). Technical abilities a secondary factor (as grads come in with a lot to learn).

I began as an intern and my interview was informal however actually getting the job took time (approx. 3 months) before I heard back.

Short interview with manager at the time.

They were very simple but effective in terms of what questions were asked of you applying for a position.

I had two interviews, one interview was in Christchurch and the other was in Melbourne, where I was living. The manager happened to be working in Melbourne at the time so we had an informal interview over dinner.

Very relaxed, I was a recommended hire.

About whether i knew the general process of design for major projects and some personality questions

Thoughts on uni study, time management, etc

What is my 5 year career plan? What does innovation mean to me? What does teamwork mean to me? What's my experience as related to my potential role?

Some technical questions, what's my education background, why do I choose to apply for this position?

Why was I interested? My studies.

What do I know about the company? Where do I see myself in 5 years? What are your strengths/weaknesses? Tell us about your major project. What made you interested about our company?

Details of my previous experience and about my location / getting to the office.

Mostly just about my work interest, what I've worked on in the past, my thoughts on how I would perform in consulting etc.

Prior to being employed, I was asked about my experiences at Uni and any work experience I had undertaken

Experience, safety, willingness to travel

General questions like ethics and values of the company. Importance of the safety and team related questions. and Few academical questions.

What can you bring to the company. how would you describe yourself. more about personality, than technical know how, just as long as a passion and ethic to learn is there.

Who am I? What are my hobbies / goals?

Knowledge of company, previous work experience, previous life experience, personal interests, career goals.

I was asked about my knowledge, my experience and what value I can bring to the company.

I do not remember them all however one question was: "If you retired tomorrow what would you want to be known for"

What experiences I had, why I wanted to work at the company and what did I know about working on government style contracts

I dealt with real people - remembered names, spoke to people and was treated the same way. Find out about the company and if this looks like the place for you, make it happen.

Approach your application with an open mind and be prepared to discuss a range of different topics with your interviewer

Read a little bit on the company and think about why you want to work here/in the discipline.

Try and pitch yourself as somebody someone would want to work with. The most technically skilled person may not be able to work with others or approach a problem creatively, and therefore won't be as much of an asset to the company as someone who is more collaborative and open with their ideas.

Know the Value. Learn about the safety and prepare to confirm what you have stated in your resume.

Be passionate about what you do, and show you are a keen learner

Do some research to understand your job responsibilities, and the value of the firm etc.

Knowledge and interest in building services prior to interview

Have some background knowledge of day-to-day processes within the company and an understanding of some current/past major jobs completed by the company. Practise behavioural questions and brush up on some technical specifics

Check companies Website and learn what they are about. Think about your own abilities and think about how you can improve them. Think of new ideas that interest you and apply to the position.

Be aware of the role you are applying for

Have a good idea on your strengths and weaknesses and what skills/attitude/knowledge you could bring to the team - and what you want to learn

Know the company locally and create a talking point in an interview. have good body language and just be clear. Don't need to rush the answer, take a second to think, and act natural, just like your speaking to someone in a shop.

Apply early and develop a unique resume and cover letter specific to the company and job. Network and connect with others in the industry and within the company.

Find a way to get yourself noticed. Get a foot in the door, once you get to an interview, you've passed the hardest part.

Understand the company, the market it operates in, make sure to be a well-rounded person with a healthy work-life balance, have a can-do attitude and show initiative.

Have as many experiences as you can, do volunteer work, any extra curricular activities

To be natural and focus on culture and atmosphere as to get to the interview it is assumed you are competent in engineer. Have passion and drive to create the impossible!
